Kindness Crew

We promote kindness and compassion for all students at Powell.  Our Kindness Crew is a group of students who help create and encourage a culture of kindness.  As a member of the Kindness Crew, students assist with activities and events like community service projects, kindness challenges, bullying prevention activities, and welcoming new students to our campus.  Students in the Kindness Crew lead by example in order to encourage everyone to be kind and compassionate to others.

Dancing in the Classroom

Our 5th grade students benefit from the 10 weeks of Dancing Classrooms.  During the ten weeks, students practice communication and etiquette while learning the history of famous dances from around the world.  The program features the “Dulaine Teaching Method” for grooming social awareness and promoting positive forms of collaboration. Our students begin the 10 weeks a little nervous about the idea of holding hands with someone of the opposite sex, but by the end, the kids pose proudly in their dance frames.  Friendship and lifetime memories are created amongst all students while warming the hearts of the parents who proudly watch their children dance.

Student Council

Powell Student Council is made up of elected officers and class representatives from third through fifth graders.  We believe that participating students will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects.  We have made lap blankets and cards for the nursing home adults, collected food and toys for Prairie Paws, and made Valentine cards for the troops.

Community-based Extracurricular Activities

We encourage and engage our students in getting involved in their community.  It is their involvement that helps our community thrive and all to feel welcome at Powell.  We are engaged in service projects throughout the school year that promote self-awareness, as well as the well-being of others.  Some of these activities are Socktober, Food Drive, Santa Cop, Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, and Cinco de Mayo Parade.
